<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting - April 11, 2006 <br />7:00 a.m. <br /> <br />MembersILiaisons Present: Gina Bauman, Bob Benke, Dennis Flahave, Linda Harmon, Lisa <br />Harreld, John Kaufhold, Mark Nelson, Bruce Nustad, and Jim Witkowski. <br /> <br />MembersILiaisons Absent: Gene Delaune, Steve Larson, Jim Sculthorp, and Gary Stang. <br /> <br />Staff Present: Matt Fulton, Grant Femelius, David Black, and Jennifer Lavandowska. <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />Mark Nelson called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />The minutes of the March 14, 2006 meeting were presented for approval. All approved. <br /> <br />Brighton Village <br />Black reported that staff had recently met with the new project manager from Kraus-Anderson. <br />K-A is still negotiating with the bank: and a drug store; it appears that the grocery store will not <br />be part of the site. An extended-stay hotel and a fitness center are interested in anchoring the <br />site. Fulton expressed disappointment with what the developer has brought forward so far. <br />Witkowski inquired ifthere was a study or survey done regarding what the community is looking <br />for. Black noted that in 2001-02 there was a task force that looked into what the community <br />would like in that area. The task force recommended approval of the hotel, and the Council <br />approved it, but the hospitality industry under went a slump that has just started to reverse itself. <br />There was also community input indicating interest in a new grocery store. Nelson added that he <br />recalled that a retail study had been completed. Black replied that he is correct; it showed that <br />the site could only accommodate half of a grocery store, however there are now grocery stores <br />that are considerably smaller and would be able to fit onto that site. <br /> <br />Dan Engelsma ofK-A has been asked to come before the Council to discuss what is happening <br />with the development. Nelson recommended that he give a chronological presentation of the site <br />to the Council. <br /> <br />Beisswenger's New Store <br />Black reported that the City recently met with Mark Beisswenger. He is trying to finish up the <br />new store and plans on moving in on April 27th. <br /> <br />Waste Treatment Plant <br />Fulton reported that the Mounds View City Council denied a conditional use permit for a waste <br />treatment plant for the motel site on April 1 O. The denial was based on the light-industrial <br />
