Special Order of Business - 2002 State of the Citv Address

As T present my third state of the City address, I find myself reflecting on a year that allows me to be proud of the
City's accomplisrunents, yet cognizant of the changes and challenges that are before us as a community and a colmtIy.
New Brighton is a wonderful community...a community that is ~table and safe; a commwlity comprised of active
residents who care about their neighbors and neighborhoods, a commwlity with wondetful natuml resources; a full
service conuuunitywith extensive municipal services, which are delivered promptly, professionally, and a~ tax.-
cfficiently as you expect them to be. We are proud of the management staff and City manager Matt Fulton for their
dedication and service. The employees of the city are responsible for the programs and work plans being completed
throughout the commwuty. New Brighton has a positive reputation in the metropolitan area, based on the active
participation of your elected and appointed officials on significant matters that impact our community. As Mayor, I
lam proud to report that the State of the City is strong.

A lot has been accomplished during the past year. It obviously can't happen without a protessional and dedicated
staff throughout the organization. And it requires conscientious, informed, and sound leadership on the part of my
colleagues around this table. Elected officials, whose responsibility it is 10 represent the best interest of all New
Brighton residents, so your investment in the conununity, whether tinancial or otherwise, providc you with the return
you expect, at the lem:.t cost in the way oflocal property taxes and other expenses associated with receiving local
SetVICes.
