I

I

I

~

July 17, 2000

Mr. Matt Fulton, City Manager
City of New Brighton
New Brighton, MN 55112

RE: Agenda Items for July 25, 2000 Council Meeting

Dear Mr. Fulton:

Pursuant to our recent conversation, I am formally requesting that certain items be placed on the
agenda for the July 25, 2000 city council meeting. The items 1 wish discussed include the
following:

1.

An amendment to the New Brighton ordinances banning the construction of new sheds
or similar free-standing buildings in residential areas. In recent years many New Brighton
residents have made improvements or additions to their residences. Unfortunately,
the last few years have also seen a proliferation of large ugly sheds in our community.
While some communities seem interested in maintaining property values and have taken
steps to ban or limit the size of such buildings, New Brighton has done nothing,
resulting in increasingly trashy looking neighborhoods. A petition has been signed by
many residents supporting the proposed amendment.

2. An amendment to the ordinances further reducing the number of vehicles which can
be parked on a residential lot. As with the sheds, numbers of vehicles, snowmobiles, RV's,
boats, trailers, etc. parked off the main driveway in yards, whether on a patch of gravel or
not, gives neighborhoods a trashy look. While an ordinance limiting off driveway parking
in residential areas would at least discourage a junkyard-like appearance.

I am interested in being on the committee or task force for changing residential
ordinances. We would greatly appreciate these proposed amendments to be given top
priority and to be in effect by November 1,2000.

Thank you for your consideration and attention in this matter.

~~k~

Hiafa Koep
176819thAve. N.W.
New Brighton, MN 55112
651-631-2396

.
