<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, September 28, 1999, <br />at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Old Highway 8 NW, <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gunderman, Hoffman, Larson, and Samuelson, <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Susan Arntz, Assistant to the City Manager <br />David Eichers, Councilmember of the Month <br />John Kelley, Police Chief <br />Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br />Kevin Locke, Community Development Director <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br />Cary Teague, City Planner <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Motion by Larson, seconded by Samuelson, to APPROVE THE COUNCIL AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Hoffman, seconded by Samuelson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE SEPTEMBER 14, 1999, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried, <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, with Council consent, received the minutes of the Planning Commission - <br />August 17, 1999; and Public Safety Commission - May 26, 1999. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Police Chief John Kelley acknowledged the life saving efforts of Abdel Wazwaz for <br />rescuing his brother, Mahmoud, from the bottom of a pool. Abdel administered first Aid, <br />and Mahmoud has recovered fully from the ordeal. Abdel's quick response was heroic, <br />Abdel will be presented with the New Brighton Civilian Service Award at a future date. <br /> <br />Kelley presented Officer Terry Nelson with his second New Brighton Life Saving Award. <br />Nelson arrived to the Wazwaz residence and found Mahmoud in respiratory distress, <br />Nelson quickly began life saving efforts which enabled Mahmoud's lungs to drain, After <br />paramedics arrived, Nelson continued to assist and Mahmoud was transported to the <br />hospital and was released the following day. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Larson, to COMMEND AND PRESENT LIFE <br />SAVING AWARD TO POLICE OFFICER TERRY NELSON AND THE CIVILIAN <br />LIFE SAVING A WARD TO ABDEL W AZW AZ FOR THEIR HEROIC EFFORTS. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried, <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br /> <br />Life Saving Awards <br />Report 99-212 <br />Report 99-213 <br />
