<br />4.;i <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />March 18, 1999 <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />Mayor Beneke <br />Council Member Samuelson <br />Council Member Larson <br />Council Member Gunderman <br />Council Member Hoffman <br /> <br />The intent of this letter is to request your consideration regarding the <br />proposal to narrow 16th Avenue SW, construct a sidewalk on the west side, <br />and limit parking to the east side of the street. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I have lived at 242 16th Avenue SW for more than twenty-six (26) years, and <br />strongly disagree with this proposal. My reasons are as follows: <br />. this street was designed to be a feeder street <br />from neighboring streets, thus making it <br />wider; I view the added width as an amenity <br />and not a disadvantage; anyone purchasing <br />a house on 16th makes a choice to live with <br />slightly more traffic than some of the neighboring <br />streets <br />. proposed parking on one side of the street is <br />extremely inconvenient and poses safety <br />issues with both children and senior citizens <br />. there is a perception that there is an unusually high <br />volume of traffic on this road, when indeed, there <br />is an average of 1,000 cars per day which is not <br />unreasonable for this particular road <br />· I feel strongly that a sidewalk diminishes the <br />security of my home; increases pedestrian <br />traffic, including skateboarders, people on <br />bicycles, and rollerbladers; and minimizes my <br />prIvacy <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I know that you are faced with the issue of controlling the speed of vehicles <br />using 16th. It is my understanding based on City criteria, that stop signs are <br />not a consideration. Additionally, there is some concern about how stop signs <br />would impact winter driving and the ability to get up the street. However, I <br />
