I

8th AVENUE PETITION

We the undersigned residents ofSth Avenue NW, are petitioning for the following:

1. The "No Truck" restriction to be reinstated on Sth Avenue NW, i.e.,
(tractor/trailers, tankers, dump trucks).

2. Four-way stop signs be installed at 8th Avenue and 8th Street.

The justification and reasons for the above petitions are to eliminate and alleviate the
following problems.

Since the "No Truck" restriction has been removed, 8th Avenue is being used as a short
cut route for numerous trucking companies. To name a few, Sinclair Fuel, Quast
TNT Holland, Truck King, Burger Transfer, and Annstrong Rigging & Electric.
Everyday we have to listen to fleets of these trucks roar and gear up and down our street.
These trucks are going past our homes at all hours of the day and night.

t

In addition to the noise, these trucks have to make extra wide turns to get onto Sth Avenue
from 10th Street. In doing so they have to turn into the on coming traffic lane of 8th
Avenue or go over the curb and lawn of the corner property. The corner is too short for a
tractor/trailer to make a proper turn, not to mention the danger and property damage these
trucks are imposing.

Two other problems are the traffic over flow from 35W/694 and many motor cyclists who
frequent Harry's Tavern on Old Hwy. 8. In the morning and especially the evening, from
4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, the motorists have learned to use Sth Ave. as a back way to avoid
the 35W / 694 intersection. Traffic is backed up from 10th 8t. to the Korean Church
everyday. It is almost impossible to get out of our driveways at rush hour times.
Secondly, when Harry's Tavern closes at 2:00 AM and also through out the day and night,
we get to enjoy the revving sounds of motorcycles roaring down the street. We feel a
four-way stop sign at 8th Ave. and 8th St. would defer some ofthis traffic if they had to
stop at this intersections.

I

In addition to the unacceptable traffic noise and congestion there is the concern of street
deterioration caused by the weight of these trucks. We have all been assessed over
$1000.00. How long will it be before we have to payout again to have the road replaced?
Even thought the road is supposedly built to handle such traffic, it stands to reason it is
still going to wear out faster. Why should the residents ofSth Avenue foot the bill?
