<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, September 9, 1997, <br />at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Larson and Samuelson. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Councilmember Gunderman <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Margaret Egan, Finance Director <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Brian Olson, Civil Engineer <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br />Dana Rebelein, Councilmember Appointee <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Benke requested the appointment and swearing in of Dana Rebelein to fill the <br />Councilmember vacancy immediately following approval of the Council Agenda. <br /> <br />Motion by Larson, seconded by Samuelson, to APPROVE THE AMENDED <br />COUNCIL AGENDA. <br /> <br />3 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Benke recommends the Councilmember vacancy, which the resignation of <br />Councilmember Roger Williams created, be filled by Dana Rebelein. <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson, to APPOINT DANA REBELEIN TO FILL <br />THE VACANCY OF NEW BRIGHTON CITY COUNCILMEMBER WITH THE <br />TERM OF OFFICE EXPIRING ON DECEMBER 31, 1997. <br /> <br />3 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Finance Director Margaret Egan officiated, and Rebelein read the oath of office. <br /> <br />Benke explained that Council received several applications for the Councilmember <br />vacancy. After much consideration, Council concluded that with upcoming issues such as <br />the 1998 Budget, it was felt that Rebelein was the correct person. Benke sincerely <br />thanked Rebelein for coming out of semi-retirement to fill the vacancy. <br /> <br />Rebelein said she appreciates receiving the appointment. <br /> <br />Egan stated that the candidate filings for Mayor and two Councilmember seats have <br />closed. Benke noted, with relief, he will be running unopposed for Mayor. The <br />following candidates have filed for the two Councilmember seats: Dr. John Gregory <br />Baker, Marritta Ridge Gould, George A.
