We would
like to take this opportunity to apprise you of an ongoing situation that is causing us some
concern.

Last spring construction was begun on the addition to Sunnyside Elementary School to the west
of the existing building, near the school parking lot. As a result of this construction, many of the
school staff began parking on Rainbow Lane. Since that time, the addition has now been
completed, but staff members still continue to park on Rainbow Lane. This presents an ongoing
problem of proper street maintenance because the street sweepers and snowplows cannot fully
service the street with the cars parked there. An example of this is the existence of gravel on the
street left over from late last summer when liquid tar and loose gravel was put on our street. The
cars were parked there when they first cleaned up after the application so it was not cleaned up;
the cars were parked there again through the winter and it didn't get cleaned up with the snow
plowing; the cars were parked there again this spring during the annual spring street sweeping
and it didn't get cleaned up; and when an additional sweeping was done after that.

While we understand that from time to time there will be school functions necessitating use of
on-street parking due to overflow of the parking lot, the use of on-street parking by school staff
members seems unnecessary when there is adequate space in the lot. We would therefore request
the installation of signs limiting the length of time for on-street parking to two-hour parking
between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, such as have been placed on
Sunnyside Terrace near lrondale High School.

Your consideration of our concerns is greatly appreciated.

Respectfully submitted,

2: j/'." j;t.
