The petition discussed complaints to include littering, parking too close to comers and on
curves and speeding. The City Council received this petition and referred it to the Public Safety
Commission.

On May 31, 2006, the New Brighton Public Safety Commission discussed this issue. The
petition was presented, and, Joan Kelly, resident of Brighton Lane and Public Safety
Commissioner, described the issues in the neighborhood. It was noted that the curve on Brighton
Lane also resulted in a higher public safety issue due to parked vehicles and speed.
Commissioner Kelly also discussed the littering and parking problems and presented
photographs documenting those same problems. It was also discussed that parking restrictions of
2 hours maximum in this area has alleviated other neighborhood concerns including the
Poppyseed Drive area. They too experienced similar issues including littering attributed to
lrondale High School students. Irondale High School does have available parking in their lot,
but, the parking on residential streets by students is attributed to the estimated $200 annual fee

I:ICOUNCI L IRErORTS\2006IPublic SafetyIPublic Safetyl8righlonLanel'arkingRestriclions,doc
