Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br /> <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to so lcment this re ort~ Comments attached <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Approval of RESOLUTION AUTHORIZNG EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN <br />THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON AND THE MN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, <br />OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR THE SAFE AND SOBER COMMUNITIES GRANT <br />FOR OCTOBER 1,2006 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30,2007. <br /> <br />Legislative History: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The City of New Brighton has participated in "Safe and Sober" grant programs for several years <br />and has authorized/approved similar grants in previous years. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />Additional $12,000 of overtime expenditures for use in targeted traffic safety programs and <br />enforcement. <br /> <br />Explanation: <br /> <br />The City of New Brighton along with the Cities of Roseville, Mounds View, St. Anthony, White <br />Bear Lake and Ramsey County have been allocated $90,000 in funds through the "Safe and <br />Sober Communities" grant. The New Brighton Department of Public Safety has been a frequent <br />partner with the Office of Traffic Safety through the "Safe and Sober" program including five <br />years of Safe and Sober Communities grants. This year's grant will result in an additional <br />$12,000 for use by the New Brighton Department of Public Safety for targeted enforcement and <br />programs to include DUI, speed, aggressive driving and seat belt enforcement and education. <br />This program has been extremely successful in New Brighton and is coordinated by Sgt.
