<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at <br />7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gundennan, Larson, and Samuelson <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Councilmembers Williams <br /> <br />Maurie Anderson, Park and Recreation Director <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br />Kevin Locke, Community Development Director <br />Erny Mattila, City Planner <br /> <br />Mayor Benke welcomed Councilmember of the Month Ruth Mason. <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Samuelson, to APPROVE THE COUNCIL <br />AGENDA. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE MAY 13, 1997, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, with Council consent, received the minutes of the Economic Development <br />Commission - April 8, 1997; and Planning Commission - April 15, 1997. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Benke announced that Pastor Paul Olson, senior pastor of Christ the King Lutheran <br />Church, is retiring after 36 years of service to 2,800 church members. Benke thanked <br />Pastor Olson for his lifetime contribution. <br /> <br />Pastor Olson said New Brighton is a marvelous place to start a church and raise a family. <br />Dorothy Olson thanked the community and schools for their wonderful experience. <br /> <br />Mayor Benke PROCLAIMED JUNE 1,1997, AS PASTOR PAUL OLSON AND <br />DOROTHY OLSON DAY IN THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON. <br /> <br />The New Brighton/Mounds View Chamber of Commerce has selected the Western Bank <br />as 1997 Business of the Year. Also, they recognized the following businesses: <br />Rehabilicare for Community Image; Hansen's Goodies and Gifts for Customer Service; <br />and Fedor's Market for Community Contribution.
