<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, February 11, 1997, <br />at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gunderman, Larson, Samuelson and Williams. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Barbara Jeanetta, Assistant to the City Manager <br />John Kelley, Police Chief <br />Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br />Pat Tuma, Park Supervisor <br /> <br />Council A~enda <br /> <br />Benke requested that Report 97,022, Park and Recreation Department Mascot, be moved <br />to the beginning of the Special Order of Business, and Report 97-035, MPRS Court <br />Judgement be moved to the end of the Council Business agenda. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to APPROVE THE AMENDED <br />COUNCIL AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by Samuelson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE JANUARY 28, 1997, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, with Council consent, received the minutes of the Economic Development <br />Commission - December 10, 1996; and Public Safety Commission - December 19, <br />1996. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Recreation Supervisor Pat Tuma presented the finalists for the Park and Recreation <br />Mascot Contest. The local elementary schools (Pike Lake, Bel Air, Sunnyside, and St. <br />John's) submitted 52 entries for the mascot contest. Staff selected 5 finalists which were <br />resubmitted to the schools for a vote. Each finalist explained their creative process for <br />their mascot drawing. A total of 1,061 votes were cast and the winning entry was <br />"Freddy Fox."
