Thirty Mounds View, New Brighton and St. Anthony residents were <br />present, 9 city staff, Ramsey County Director of Public Works and Traffic <br />Engineer, 3 members of the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission, <br />-5- <br /> <br />Council Member Mary Burg and County Commissioners Jan Parker. We were the <br />first ever to have students present. Some lrondale High School students attended. <br />A presentation by two national speakers was given, a walk of the Silver Lake <br />Road and 694 area took place and a markup of maps after the walk of plans for the <br />next 10 years. One of the funding sources recommended wastl1e "Safe Routes to <br />Schools" grant. We want to create a safer route to school andg~ls?me links for <br />the Strategic Plan as well. There is money available for infrastru9~~as well as <br />non-infrastructure. There has been great support from residents~Cbtinciland <br />Commissioners. The Council has approved that we move fOnYiifd witht1:ij.~ ...... <br />process. The grant is due July 6th. Most of the ideas foriIllProv~Ill~nts haV~Come <br />directly from residents. There be 4 or 5 years of funding. <br />Each year we can apply for this funding. Illis is a great start for our Strategic <br />Plan. <br /> <br />C. <br /> <br />Eagles Nest Groups and Birthday PIDi)rRental <br />Jessica Samuelson, Birthday Party Coordinator gave an update of the birthday <br />parties, groups and teen nights. There was an 8% increase in birthday parties in <br />January through June 2006 compared to 2005. The groups have declined a little <br />which couldbebe,cause of the competition out there. We have done direct <br />mailings!odaycarep[()yiders to increase our awareness. We do believe there has <br />beentIDincre~e bd:'al1$e of the mailings. Teen attendance has gone up <br /> <br /> <br />dramatically from 2005. We brought it up 184%. The teen program is one night a <br />week where teens can get together, grades 6th, 7th and 8th. This summer we will <br />try 3 different trips. We are considering starting a teen council as mentioned in the <br />Strategic Plan to have a place where teens can voice their opinions and volunteer <br />with seniors or other groups. <br /> <br />VII. Announcements <br /> <br />A. Update Parks, Recreation, and Trails Strategic Plan <br />Jason said the plan is now complete and approved. Jason thanked the Commission <br />for their help and long hours and dedication they had for the Strategic Plan. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />Meeting Time Change <br />Jason asked the Commission if they would like to change the meeting time from <br />7:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m to be consistent with the City Council and other <br />Commissions. <br /> <br />Also, Jason asked ifthe Commission wanted to have a July meeting. <br />
