<br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />January 24, 1995 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />Council Business. continued <br /> <br />Fulton presented the retainage of the New Brighton Chamber to perform business <br />retention responsibilities. The Chamber would participate in the study and perform <br />in a lead capacity with ongoing retention efforts. The Chamber would participate in <br />business interviews, attend the North Metro Business Retention and Development <br />Commission meetings and working committees, and monthly EDC meetings. Fulton <br />believes this will provide a positive relationship between the City and the Chamber. <br /> <br />Curt Ackerman, Chamber Executive Director, said the Board has reviewed the <br />proposal and is very enthusiastic. <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Larson, to AUTIlORIZE THE RETENTION <br />OF THE NEW BRIGHTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR <br />PERFORMING BUSINESS RETENTION RESPONSIBILITIES ON BEHALF <br />AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CITY FOR AN ANNUAL CONTRACT <br />AMOUNT OF $18,000. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Williams noted that the action taken by the Council in regards to the Tom Thumb <br />proposal could be viewed as contradictory to business retention. He voiced his <br />stance of being pro~business and hopes that other persons will not see the Tom <br />Thumb action as being in any shape or form against New Brighton businesses. He <br />hopes that Tom Thumb will gain additional customers from the townhome project. <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Williams spoke to the Office of Volunteer Services regarding volunteer opportunities <br />in New Brighton. He asked Council support in directing staff to meet with this <br />organization to determine the viability of a Volunteer Program in New Brighton. <br /> <br />The Northwest Youth and Family Services annual event will be January 26. <br /> <br />Larson thanked Dave Williams, Assistant Manager of Godfathers Pizza, for coming <br />to the aid of his son during his recent accident.
