<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />June 22, 1993 <br /> <br />Page 1 2 <br /> <br />Council Business. continued <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />ADOPT THE RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION AND DELIVERY OF <br />THE CONTRACT AMENDMENT TO G & P PROPERTIES FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF THE BRIGHTONDALE FACILITY. <br /> <br />5 Ayes. 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Benke thanked the Brightondale residents for their patience and hoped the <br />City can continue dialogue with the residents. <br /> <br />Police Chief John Kelley presented the Targeted Residential Picketing <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />Picketing residences is becoming a means of protest or demonstration in <br />society. Shoreview and White Bear Township have passed ordinances and <br />the State recently passed a statute to control this behavior. <br /> <br />Several city residents may be objects of targeted picketing this summer. <br />The City Prosecutor has suggested the proposed ordinance which is based <br />upon one upheld by the United States Supreme Court. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Rebelein, to WAIVE THE READING <br />AND HOLD THE FIRST AND SECOND READINGS OF AN ORDINANCE <br />PROHIBITING TARGETED RESIDENTIAL PICKETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Benke said Childs has accepted the City Manager position for the City of <br />Minnetonka and wishes to commence work thereon July 21. It's necessary <br />to consider a replacement both on a short term as well as permanent basis. <br /> <br />Childs has been offered the position of City Manager for the City of <br />Minnetonka and regretfully submits his resignation. He finds it very difficult <br />to leave New Brighton, but finds this position presents an excellent career <br />advancement opportunity. He thanked Council for their support in being <br />given the opportunity to serve as City Manager for New Brighton. <br /> <br />Benke recommends that Assistant to the City Manager, Barbara Jeanetta, <br />be named interim Acting City Manager, and that her salary be adjusted to <br />compensate for additional responsibilities. <br /> <br />It is proposed the City engage the services of the Brimeyer Group to <br />conduct the City Manager recruitment process. The process involves <br />developing a profile. recruiting, screening and forwarding a number of <br />qualified applicants for Council interview and selection.
