<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />3, Nine (9) Best Management Practices (BMP's) were incorporated into the plan that <br />encompass the operation of rock and gravel crushing and processing plants, and <br />areas adjacent to the plants that may be impacted by the operations, They are: <br /> <br />I. Education - Eliminate human error as a factor in pollution prevention <br /> <br />II. Inspection and supervision <br /> <br />III, Communication and supervision <br /> <br />IV, Selection of plant sites based on environmental factors <br /> <br />V, Proper storage of petroleum products - eliminate exposure to storm <br />water, <br /> <br />VI. Perform routine and repair maintenance as needed to eliminate <br />leakage from mechanical components. <br /> <br />VII, Use available resources to contain common spills, <br /> <br />VIII, Construct bermed containment areas when needed to fulfill intent and <br />purpose of the plan, <br /> <br />IX. Erosion control prevention <br /> <br />The practices listed have been expanded in the plant to address specific areas of <br />concern, Plant operators or supervisors have the option to expand or adapt particular <br />Practices to best serve the intent of the plan at a specific site, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN <br /> <br />Note: This site will be added to Midwest Asphalt Corporation's current NPDES permit. <br /> <br />IMPLEMENTATION OF BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES (BMP's) <br /> <br />I. Education <br /> <br />a, The storm water pollution prevention plan is reviewed at the January production <br />meeting, The intent of the plan is stressed, and changes or improvements are <br />noted, The plan is discussed and ideas are exchanged for plan improvement on <br />an annual basis, Any new ideas that contribute to the intent of the plan are <br />included in the written storm water pollution prevention plan, <br /> <br />b. Midwest Asphalt Corporation holds employee spill training before beginning <br />seasonal operation to instruct all plant personnel in safe petroleum product <br />handling, proper maintenance procedures, and routine inspection of the plant <br />during operation, Personnel are encouraged to take a pro-active role in <br />prevention of spills, Good housekeeping practices are stressed for the control of <br />minor drips and leaks from daily maintenance and operation, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />14 <br />
