City of New Brighton
803--5th Avenue, N.W.
New Brighton, Minnesota 55112

Re: Gordon Rendering's Odor Control System.

Dear Mr. Fridgen:

The August '15, 1978 odor compliance test, on the
process scrubber exhaust of Gordon Rendering Company in
New Brighton, was found to be in compliance with odor
concentration standard but not in compliance with the one
million odor units per minute standard.

After conducting a thorough evaluation of the
entire plant on September 19, 1978, the following
corrective action was taken to reduce the odor input
to the scrubber.

1. Repaired broken welds in condenser tube sheet;
2. Cleaned condenser tubes;
3. Repaired hot condensate leak into condenser
cooling water;
4. Regasketed and tightened screw conveyor covers;
5. A continuing maintenance schedule to be
maintained to prevent future leaks, by checking
every four months the condenser for vapor or
condensate leaks.

In (order to further improve the odor control
system, a sodium hypochlorite atomization nozzle was
installed on the scrubber.
