<br />/uncil proceedings <br />~it7 of New Brighton <br />.Nov. 23, 1976 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Jerry Kamaath, 2665 Rice Creek Terr6ce, stated that even <br />though the entrances would be on Mississippi St. it would <br />be possible for patrons t6 park on 26th Ave, thereby <br />creating some through traffic. He further stated that <br />the hours and character of the traffic would be different <br />from that in a normal commercial operation. <br />Brad Ristamaki, 2814 Rice Creek Terrace, stated he was <br />opposed to the liquor license and th2t the people in the <br />area were overwhelmingly opposed. <br /> <br />Ken Lee stated he owned 11 acres of commercial property <br />south of Mississippi St. He stated he ~isagreed that the <br />area was residential in nature and that, in fact, it had been <br />zoned commercial before the homes in the area were constructed. <br />He stated he was in favor of liquor license and th2t the <br />restaurant would add a good business and a substantial <br />tax base to the community. <br /> <br />Margaret Christenson: 2892 Rice Creek Terrace, stated that <br />many Irondale High School students would have to pass by the <br />restaurant to and from school. She stated her concerns with <br />this. <br /> <br />Mr. Bettenberg stated the traffic study projected 600 <br />vehicle trips per day to the new shopping center via Mississippi St. <br />and 1400 vehicle trips per day to the proposed center via <br />Silver Lake Road. He reiterated his position that the <br />traffic increase due to the restaurant would be minimal. <br />He pointed out that the restaurant would have access to <br />Mississippi St. alone and that some 90 parking spaces would <br />be provided with seating capacity of 180 which should preclude the <br />need for anyon-street parking. He noted further that with <br />adequate parking spaces there would be no reason for patrons <br />to park on 26th Ave. and walk across the boulevard and parking <br />lot to the restaurant. He noted the property had been zoned <br />B-3 for over 12 years and that the business was buffered to <br />the north with duplexes and that there were only 5 existing <br />residences facing the development. He noted the property <br />to the west was vacant and the property to the east was <br />commercial and the property to the south was commercial. <br />Mr. Bettenberg reiterated that traffic would not be <br />significant due to this development and stated that the <br />owner of the property had valuable property rights which <br />should be protected. <br /> <br />Ellen Citron noted that people occupying the duplexes had <br />also signed the petition in opposition to the liquor license. <br />Stan Keller stated that mOTe traffic hazards would be present <br />since alcohol would be involved. <br />
