A small one-half acre <br />pond on the site has recently been filled to accom- <br />modate the housing development. The Windsor Green <br />townhouse/condominium area consisting of 245 one to <br />three bedroom dwelling units lies immediately to <br />the south of the site. Windsor Green, built in <br />1968, is a well established townhouse development. <br />Included in the Windsor Green properties are two <br />ponds, one of which fronts on Silver Lake Road, <br />south of the subject parcel. The Windsor 'Green <br />residential area is governed by the Windsor Green <br />Homeowners Association. A majority of the Windsor <br />Green residents are opposed to the development of <br />Windsor Center and petitioned the Minnesota Envi- <br />ronmental Quality Council to order an Environmen- <br />tal Assessment on the Windsor Center project. <br /> <br />Directly south of the larger pond in the Windsor <br />Green Development and fronting on Silver Lake Road, <br />are the offices of Bermal-Smaby Realtors. To the <br />east of Windsor Green are more conventional single <br />family subdivisions. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />West and southwest of the subject parcel, along <br />the west side of Silver Lake Road and the south <br />side of County Road E, is the Salvation Army's <br />Silver Lake Nature Camp. This 150 acre facility <br />is primarily open space, but also includes a park <br />center and has temporary living quarters for ap- <br />proximately 100 visitors. The camp is a local and <br />regional resource providing services to many under- <br />privileged, handicapped and senior citizens through- <br />out the Metropolitan Area and the state, as well <br />accommodating visitors from other states and sev- <br />eral foreign countries.
