~~

I

I

of species now marginally present (although not on
endangered lists). These are primarily ovian spec-
ies which, although not nesting on the site, would
be apt to utilize the site in life patterns of eat-
ing, etc., including migration. These species
include:

I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Woodducks
Green heron
Black-crowned night heron
American bittern
Sora rail
Yellow rail
Lesser yellowlegs
Common snipe
Belted kingfisher
Long-billed marsh wren

Development in the proposed manner will severely
degrade and destroy animal habitat and living en-
vironment, along with individual animals. In
addition, surviving species-diversity will be dra-
stically reduced, thereby reducing the energetic
stability of the total environment.

I

Within the Marsh Area is habitat which provides
breeding area for ducks and numerous shorebirds as
well as for amphibians and reptiles. Receding
water levels in fall provide more ripe hunting
grounds for hungry shorebirds. Destruction of this
water-related area surrounding the open pond is
equal to total destruction of the site, so important
is the type. This area also provides winter shelter
for pheasants.

I

I

V-IO
