N.E. <br />New Brighton, MN <br /> <br />Mr. Trainer: <br /> <br />As requested by your contractor on March 5, 1986, and as you <br />authorized, our firm recently completed a subsurface investiga- <br />t ion for the above referenced pro j ect. Four (4) prev ious so il <br />borings, performed by others, indicated the presence of fill <br />and/ or bur ied swamp deposi ts on this si te. The purpose of this <br />supplemental investigation was to better evaluate soil and ground <br />water conditions relative to the design of a proposed <br />office/warehouse. <br /> <br />This supplemental subsurface investigation consisted of seven (7) <br />penetration test borings (performed in the proposed building <br />area) and two (2) power auger bor ings. One of the power auger <br />borings was performed in a proposed parking area and the other <br />power auger bor ing was performed in a prospective borrow area. <br />As with the previous borings by others, the supplemental borings <br />generally encountered fill overlying peat. The depth of fill and <br />peat appears to increase from the southeast to the northwest. <br />Boring ST-9, performed near the proposed northwest building <br />corner, encountered fill and buried peat extending to a depth of <br />23 feet. The peat encountered is considered highly compressible <br />and not sui table for foundation support.
