Box 12576
New Brighton, MN 55112
(612) 636-6191

February 5, 1987

City of New Brighton
803 5th Avenue N.\~.
Ned Brighton, Minnesota 55112

Gentlemen:

The MacGillis and Gibbs Company would like to build a truck weigh scale.
The scale is an axle scdle iNhich \'veighs one axle at d tliue. we ~ feel that
it is very i.rnportant that legal loads leave our plant at al times. We
treat 40 million board feet of lumber per year. Additional y, we handle
raw lumber which is off-loaded from rail cars and re-loaded onto trucks.
OJer 3,000 truck loads of lumber are st1ipped from our yard annually. Our
customers are evholcsalers such as Georgia Pacific, Weyerhaeuser, Pine Wood
Products, API Supply l~d Ll~pert Lumber. All of these co~pili~ies a~rec that
a ~vei;h sco.le is a ve-r:y bportant necessity to theiY: business and to our~~.

We originally desired to build the scale on 5th Avenue ~vith 24 hour access.
Now, however, due to concerns raised by the City Planner and others we have
withdrawn this proposal. The concerns expressed were in resard to trucks
bein~ backed up on 5t~ Avenue, increased truck traffic, vis~al site design
and non-confonnance ,vith the "Corridor Study".

hie have no\V decided to locate the scale inside our plant \vh.ere it ~vi11 meet
with our fl~v of traffic. This will elirr:inate the concern of trucks waiting
on the street. The scale evill be used pri'Tlarily for cur daily business and
should therefor not create increased truck traffic. Concern over the visual
site will be eliminated due to the fact that the scale ~vill not be visible
from the street. Lastly, as far as the "Corridor Study" is concerned, the
scale being only an axle scale is easily moved. Should The ~acGillis and
Gibbs Company ,vish to relocate, the scale w~Jld he moved to the new location.

Plans are
in 1987.
re-siding
cation of
to reduce

being made for several improvements to our property to be completed
These would include extending our fence to the North property line,
the large storage barn which is visible from the street and appli-
a special oil, MPCA approved, on heavily travelled areas in the yard
dust.

This sh0uld address any concerns you may have had regarding our proposal.

Sincerely,

(( (- :R~-
A.
