,; I Report #79 - 371 April 18,1979 APPLICATION FOR BUILDING PERMIT LP-84 U-HAUL COMPANY OF MINNESOTA PURPOSE To review an application for a building permit for U-HAUL Company of Minnesota to construct 'a 90 square foot addition to an existing servi~e station and to consider an equipment rental li~ense for said company. BACKGROUND The Board of Review recommended that the applicant provide alternative landscape pl~ns that would provide better screen- ing Gf the site by massing the plantings and placing evergreen trees on the western side Gf the berm. The applicant responded that the company would design a landscape plan that is accept- able to staff and the City Council. Pursuant to New Brighton City Ordinance No. 441 this company which is engaged in the equipment rental business must make application for an equipment rental license. The company primarily rents U-HAULtrucks and trailers and has submitted the necessary application for a license. The Council, by motion, may grant or refuse to grant such license after considera- tion. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the City Council approve LP-84 by simple motion con tin g e n ton the a p p 1 i can t. rev i sin g the 1 and s cap e p 1 a n by massing the plantings ~n the berm and planting evergreen trees to the west of the berm. Also staff recommends that the Council approve by simple motion the equipment rental license for U-HAUL Company of Minnesota, contingent on th~ following conditions: All repair an~ maintenance of rental equipment shall take place within the building. Vehicle parking and rental equipment parking shall be in accordance with the site plan as submitted and approved. No vehicles shall be parked on a public street nor on any landscaped areas of the site. All landscaped areas shall be maintained. All waste material, debris, refuse shall be stored inside the building or in the designated area which is completely screened from public streets and adjacent properties.
