Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br /> <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br /> <br />No comments to su lement this re ort <br /> <br />Comments attached <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Accept the 2006 National Association of Town Watch Target National Night Out Award signifying our <br />5th Place Finish in the Nation for National Night Out Activities. <br /> <br />Legislative History: <br /> <br />N/A <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />N/A <br /> <br />Explanation: <br /> <br />The City of New Brighton has been recognized for finishing 5th in the Nation for cities of 15,000 to <br />49,999 for our National Night Out activities. The City of New Brighton has a strong history of high <br />performance in all areas of community involvement with a special emphasis on National Night Out. <br />New Brighton has finished in the top five in the nation for the past seven years (including 1 sl place in <br />2005) and has been in the top 25 every year for twelve years! The City of New Brighton had more <br />than 10,000 residents with the opportunity to participate in more than 145 parties city wide. And, <br />participation from Council, City Staff, Commission and Community members resulted in more than 50 <br />volunteers visiting our neighborhood parties. Our activity included collection of 2,774 lbs and $510 <br />cash of donations for the food shelf, 165 quarts of donated ice cream, 200 complimentary burritos, 500 <br />red and blue "We are the Champions" flying discs, 768 red plastic Fire Chief helmets, 2,000 <br />Homeland Security Ready Brochures, 1,400 crime prevention newsletters, 25,969 at the metrodome <br />watching Reserve Sgt Jeremy Shackle escort McGruff onto the field, and 1.12 inches of rain. <br /> <br />Costs and Funding: <br /> <br />NI A, .r\ /L <br />.." ): <br />"{ /1 U+- \ ,",- . <br />i fl." \.
