<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 23, 1990 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Announcements and Uodates <br /> <br />The Association of Minnesota Municipalities Policy Adoption meeting will <br />be held on November 1. <br /> <br />Williams said the recent Ramsey County League of Local Governments <br />meeting centered on the impacts of tobacco companies and cigarette <br />smoking on governmental agencies. He noted the outstanding <br />presentations by the resource people and suggested a similar presentation <br />to Council. The discussion included the recent cigarette vending machine <br />bans, prohibiting smoking inside and outside of government facilities, and <br />possible disinvestment of pension funds in tobacco company stock. Staff <br />will investigate in which companies the City's pension funds are being <br />invested. <br /> <br />Staff was directed to research an Economic Development Commissioner's <br />report regarding City street names. Staff will review and prepare a report <br />for the Council. <br /> <br />Gunderman invited representatives from the Citizen League, Humphrey <br />Institute, LMC, and RCLLG, to discuss educational reform. The meeting <br />will be held on November 8, 4:00 p.m., in Gunderman's office. <br /> <br />The Youth Service Bureau Open House will be October 25. <br /> <br />Williams urged Council and residents to tour the Shoreview Community <br />Center before the election to observe the programs and uses that such a <br />facility can offer to the community. <br /> <br />The League of Minnesota Cities Policy Adoption Conference will be held <br />on November 27. <br /> <br />Jim Andrews, Cable Technician, will be leaving and Bret Cornelius will be <br />replacing him.
