<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 10, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Council thanked the Eagles for furnishing supplies and refreshments <br />for the volunteers at the September 23rd New Brighton Household <br />Hazardous Waste Collection Day. <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND ADOPT <br />A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $500 FROM THE NEW <br />BRIGHTON EAGLES FOR THE PURPOSE OF Off-SETTING COSTS FOR THE <br />HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY ON SEPTEMBER 23, 1989; AND <br />TO MAKE BUDGET CHANGE FOR SUCH DONATION. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />John Kelley, Chief of Police, explained that Project D.A.R.E. is a <br />drug prevention program which wll be presented to students of the <br />New Brighton area schools by an uniformed New Brighton Police <br />Officer. Project D.A.R.E. is funded by donations from the private <br />sector. <br /> <br />Arlene Bjorkland, a representative from the Lutheran Aid <br />Association, presented a $300 donation to Chief Kelley to fund the <br />cost of materials used in Project D.A.R.E. <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Brandt, to ACCEPT THE $300 DONATION <br />FROM THE LUTHERAN AID ASSOCIATION FOR THE FUNDING OF PROJECT <br />D.A.R.E. AND AUTHORIZE A BUDGET CHANGE FOR 101-41210-3307. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Jim Senden, Chamber of Commerce, presented a $10,000 donation to <br />fund the City's share of the senior citizen van. The remainder is <br />funded by a Ramsey County Community Development Block Grant. <br /> <br />In addition, the Chamber made a $10,000 donation to fund a new <br />picnic shelter at Hansen Park.
