<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />September 12, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Special Order of Business, continued <br /> <br />Chief Kelley thanked Council for their support of staff's efforts <br />towards Accreditation these past two years. He noted that without <br />their support this goal would not have been achieved. <br /> <br />The Council was presented wi th the offi ci a 1 Accred; tati on <br />Cel'tif;cate awarded to the New Brighton ?olice Department on July <br />29, 1989. The New Brighton Police Department is the first <br />nationally accredited law enforcement agency in Minnesota. <br /> <br />Chief Kelley noted that, with the establishment of a specific day <br />as the official New Brighton Police Department Day, all awards and <br />commendations would formally be made on this day each year. <br /> <br />Mot i on by Ben ke , seconded by Wi 11 i ams , to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />ADOPT A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING AUGUST 8, 1989, AND EVERY AUGUST 8TH <br />HENCEFORTH TO BE NEW BRIGHTON POLICE DEPARTMENT DAY. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />SpeCial Order of <br />Business <br /> <br />Police Department <br />Accreditation <br />Report 89-218 <br />Resolution 89-109 <br /> <br />Judy Goepel said the Third Annual Antique Car Run was the Third Annual Antique <br />most extensive to-date, not only in number of cars registering and Car Run Awards <br />completing the Run, but in other events and participation as well. Report 89-219 <br /> <br />Goepel noted that 42 cars registered, 38 started the Run in New <br />London, and 33 actually came across the finish line. Of the cars, <br />4 of them were from England, all of which have participated in <br />previous London to Brighton, England Antique Car Runs. <br /> <br />The Antique Car Run Board, many volunteers, and financial sponsors <br />did an outstanding job of planning, funding and orchestrating the <br />activities in New London, New Brighton, and all the communities in <br />between. A special "Brat BBQ" to thank those people will be held <br />at.Veterans' Park on September 19th. <br /> <br />Judy Goepel, Antique Car Run President; Dick Pellow, Secretary; and <br />Ed Walhof, Treasurer, presented autographed commemorative posters <br />to the sponsors of the Third Annual Antique Car Run: <br /> <br />Tri-City Legion <br />New Brighton Lions Club <br />New Brighton Eagles Club <br />New Brighton Chamber of Commerce <br />Bernick's Pepsi <br />
