A van would be more suitable than a
bus when transporting small groups of people. The Chamber of
Commerce has recognized this need and provided a $10,000 gift to aid
in the purchase. Matching funds are being requested from a Ramsey
County Community Development Block Grant.

Cost estimates for the van were recei ved from Mi nar Ford and
conversions estimates from HDS. Base price for an E250 138u wheel
base cargo van would be approximately $10,937. Air conditioning
would be $788, lift and tie down $2,600, seats $4,100, 320 hp engine
$525.

The drivers would be volunteers and there would be a small fee to
riders.

Gunderman asked if the use of volunteer drivers would cause a
problem with the vehicle insurance policy. Anderson said there
would not be an increase in the cost of insurance and it is covered
under the normal liability insurance.

Anderson confirmed that the van would be stored at the city garage.
Gunderman feels this is an excellent idea and proposal.

Benke asked if there are any future proposed Community Development
Block Grants. Locke said currently there are not any more requests
for grants, and the deadline for the requests is March 1, 1989.

Benke feels this project is a move in the right direction to benefit
this growing section of our population.

Moti on by Gunderman, seconded by Brandt to ADOPT THE RESOLUTION
REQUESTING A $10,000 RAMSEY COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
TO PURCHASE A SENIOR CITIZENS HANDICAPPED-ACCESSIBLE PASSENGER VAN.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Anderson presented the request to the Twi n City Army Ammuni ti on
Plant to acquire land for an adult softball complex on TCAAP
property.

The City of Arden Hills is interested in acquiring land from the
Arsenal and has requested the Cities of New Brighton, Mounds View,
and Shoreview to join in requesting that the Army provide a $1 per
year lease.
