He further commented that the noise walls <br />on the North side of the freeway create a hostile environment for <br />greenery to thrive. Color and additional landscaping would hide and <br />help the walls blend into the area. <br /> <br />Reierson said that the setback is an extremely difficult area for <br />greenery to flourish. Vines have been somewhat successful. but <br />evergreens and other trees do have problems with the heat. sand. <br />snow and salt. A forester has been retained to work closely with <br />MN/DOT and the City in the installation of the types of greenery <br />used to enhance the area. <br /> <br />Gunderman asked how often the walls wi 11 need to be repainted. <br />Reierson said that with a sealer and two coats of paint the <br />projected life should be about 12 years. <br /> <br />Reierson said painting the wall in a single neutral color is <br />acceptable to MN/DOT. <br /> <br />Williams asked if there is a possibility of repalrlng the uneven <br />tops of the wall panels. Reierson agrees with Williams that the <br />uneven tops are unsightly and explained that when these panels were <br />installed the elevation made it difficult for even tops. <br /> <br />Moti on by Brandt. seconded by Wi 11 i ams. to SELECT THE COLOR SAMPLE <br />ROSE BISQUE FOR THE REPAINTING OF THE 1-694 SOUND WALLS. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman. seconded by Williams. to AMEND THE MOTION TO <br />INSTRUCT MN/DOT TO RECONSIDER THE INSTALLATION OF THE SOUND WALL AS <br />IT WAS ORIGINALLY DECIDED. <br /> <br />3 Ayes - 0 Nayes. Motion Carried <br /> <br />Benke Abstained <br /> <br />Brandt agrees with Gunderman that the City did not prevent the <br />original finishing of the wall and that the City should not be <br />obligated to pay for the completion of the wall.
