Motion Carried <br /> <br />Erny Mattila. City Planner. introduced Mr. John Strate. a volunteer <br />teacher at St. John the Baptist School. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Strate exp 1 a i ned that the proj ect i nvo 1 ved a small group of <br />third and fourth grade students who have proven the abil ity to <br />handl e addi ti ana 1 work. These students have been studyi ng the <br />City's planning process and downtown New Brighton. <br /> <br />Mr. Strate obtained information regarding the Golden Pond Project <br />from the Planning Department. The Golden Pond Project was used as <br />an example of redevelopment in the City since most of the children <br />had witnessed the transformation from older. single family homes to <br />a new seni or housi ng structure. The students used thei r own <br />imagination and ideas to redesign the downtown area. <br /> <br />The students were given a tour of City Hall which included a brief <br />explanation of how each department contributes to the overall <br />development effort. <br /> <br />Mr. Strate said the children enjoyed the tour of City Hall and <br />thanked Mattila and the City Staff for their help in this project. <br /> <br />The Council recognized the following students for their interest in <br />the City: J.P. Strate, Angie Tucci. Erin Dirkson.
