<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Mee ing Minutes <br />November 7, 1988 <br /> <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />Council Bus'ness continued <br /> <br />It also includes widening the portion of Mississippi Street between <br />Thornda 1 e A enue and Long 1 ake Road to 44 feet to match the <br />remainder 0 Mississippi Street, and miscellaneous sanitary sewer <br />and waterma n repairs. <br /> <br />Project 88- 0 consists of the construction of a 5 foot sidewalk <br />along the n rth side of 5th street NW between Silver lake Road and <br />Stinson Blv . <br /> <br />The bids we e open at 11:00 a.m., November 4,1988; and the original <br />cost estim te for the Projects 88-18 and Projects 88-20 were <br />$488,700 an $43,100, respectively; therefore the bids received are <br />very good. <br /> <br />The low bid er was Midwest Asphalt Corp., PO Box 5477, Hopkins, MN <br />55343, wit a bid of $359,560.16. Midwest Asphalt was the <br />contractor n the Downtown Area Street Rehabi 1 i tati on Proj ect on <br />which the City had the unfortunate problem with the chipped curbing. <br />Mi dwest As halt has assured the Ci ty there wi 11 be no repeat <br />problems on this job and are anxious to improve their image with the <br />City. <br /> <br />The schedul ng on these projects calls for sanitary sewer and water <br />service rep irs to be completed this fall and the remainder of the <br />work in th spring and early summary of 1989. Mr. Blair Bury, <br />owner, Midw st Asphalt, was present at the Council meeting to answer <br />any questio s. <br /> <br />Benke asked if all the bids have been reviewed and checked. Proper <br />said, all t e bids have been reviewed and checked and found them to <br />be very c mpetitive. Also, Proper had spoken to several <br />municipalit'es who had dealt with Midwest Asphalt and found no <br />problems wi h their work. <br /> <br />Williams as ed if the City would consider withholding 5-10% of the <br />contract t ensure favorable performance of the job.
