<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was <br />held Tuesday, May 24, 1988, at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building. 803 Fifth Avenue <br />N.W. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Brandt, Gunderman, Larson, and Williams <br /> <br />Also <br />Present: Henry Sinda. City Manager <br />Erny Mattila, City Planner <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br />Margaret Egan, Finance Director <br />Gary Berger, Administrative Assistant <br />Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Brandt, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THEMAY 3, 1988, SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING <br />AND THE MAY 10, 1988, REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Mayor Benke announced that Charlie LeFevere has been with the City <br />of New Brighton for six years and thanked him for the good job he <br />has done. <br /> <br />Benke announced Administrative Secretary Debby Young is leaving <br />the city after more than four years to work for the City of Anoka. <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson, to APPOINT RITA CATHERINE <br />DAKIN TO THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION TO FILL A VACANCY WITH A TERM <br />EXPIRING DECEMBER 31, 1988. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson, to APPOINT DOUGLAS WALLIN TO <br />THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY COMMISSION TO FILL A VACANCY WITH A TERM <br />EXPIRING DECEMBER 31, 1989. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Mayor Benke proclaimed June 14, 1988, as Flag Day in the City of <br />New Brighton and invited the council to attend a "Pause for the <br />Pledge" ceremony at the Tri-City American Legion at 6:00 p.m. on <br />that date. <br /> <br />Lynn Skripka, League of Women Voters, presented the three grand <br />prize winners in the League's recycling poster contest (Laura <br />Lovgren, Pike Lake School; Ginette Grieman, St. John's the Baptist <br />School; and Tracy Manke, Valentine Hills School) who then present- <br />ed their posters to the council. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br /> <br />Appointment: <br />" Human Rights <br />Commission <br /> <br />Appointment: <br />Environmental <br />Quality Commission <br /> <br />Proclamation: <br />Flag Day <br /> <br />Presentation: <br />Recycling Poster <br />Winners <br />
