The request
is to allow for a new identifying ground sign which would list the
names of the occupants of .the Shopping Center. (See attached drawing).
The applicant states that the new sign is necessary to adequately
advertise those businesses located in the shopping center.

The shape of the shopping center and its setback from Silver Lake
Road create special signing needs that the applicant feels cannot be
met with a standard ground sign.

STAFF ANALYSIS
A copy of the IIground signsll section of the Rice Creek Shopping Center
Sign Plan is attached. Although the code permits shipping centers to
be identified by a single ground sign stating the name of the center
only, there is a provision to vary the sign requirements in areas of
special control. The Rice Creek Shopping Center has a shape that does
not make the tenant wall signs easily visible from Silver Lake Road.
The proposed new ground sign will enable each tenant to put the name
(only) of their establishment on the ground sign.

The proposed ground sign seems well designed. Both present and past
management of Rice Creek Shopping Center have expressed concern over
the lack of visibility of tenant signing and the need for an identify-
ing ground sign that lists the names of the shopping center tenants.
