page 2.
SP-79

identification and would preserve the residential building appear-
ance.

The attached sign sketch and sign location sketch are, however,
very rough. Ordinances state that the ground sign must have a
setback of 10 feet for this property, while the location sketch
apparently shows the sign up to the property line along Silver
Lakd Road. The sign sketch itself should be refined.

The application refers to just .the single ground sign and makes
no provision for window signs, signs on doors or directory type
signs. As with wall signs we feel that window signs could very
easily detract from the appearance. Signs on the exterior doors
listing tenant name(s) only may be appropriate and we would
suggest that they be kept to 3 inches or less in height. Wall
directories within the building entrances should also be permitted.

The design and location of the building create a situation where
signing should be handled sensitively. The trade off of having
tenants names on the ground sign would appear to be appropriate
in lieu of any wall signs on the building.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that SP-79 be approved by waiving the reading and
adopting the attached resolution. At their meeting of April 18th,
the Board of Review adopted a resolution (78-12) recommending
approval of SP-79 along the same lines as the staff recommendation.

j;~~jpJJ

L~

~mes F.
