A scenic area, is an area whose <br />special architectural or histdrical characteristics <br />orYi~11..()~e natural beauty requires special sign <br />regulation to insure that. all signs, used within that <br />area are compatible with each other. <br /> <br />2. Shopping centers are more intensive commercial areas <br />whose character indicates that signs should be <br />permitted which differ from those which would other- <br />wise be applicable under this ordinance. Ashopping <br />center is a premise planned and ,developed as.<a' unit, <br />with an undivided or non-segregated parking '. area, <br />that is advertised as a center and has. multiple <br />occupancy by business or. service f.;i.rms." In areas of special control, the city council by~ special <br />permit may establish special regulations for signs which <br />are either more restrictive or less restrictive than those <br />provided by this ordinanc8 and the Table of Basic Design <br />Elements, having regard to the character of the area of <br />special control. to which the special permit will apply. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />l. ,In scenic areas, it is generally expected that. sign <br />regulations will be more restrictive than those <br />which would otherwise be applicable under this <br />ordinance. <br /> <br /> <br />For shopping centers, in addition to general standards <br />in Section 14-070, the follow ing apply: the shopping <br />center should be identified by a single ground sign <br />for the uurpose of center identification.
