."

,

ALLAN MANUFACTURING
6449 HODGSON RD.
cmCLE PINES. MINN. :J:JOH.

OUr company manufactures parts for muzzle loading firearms. We start
with small metal castings and do all the secondary operations to turn
the parts into finished products which are then sold nation wide to
all the large dealers in this field.

We have been using small foundrys in the east to do our casting and I
suppose our small volumne of parts is perhaps just fill-in work for
them because the lead t:i.'ne of parts is dragging out from :3 to 5 months,
and to say the le~st this is hurting our business badly.

Our process is called investment cast ing, and this is the same kind of
casting that is done by dentists in their offices to make bridges and
gold teeth. The process is also used in the jewelry business and by
the amature jewelry makers who do the casting in their basement or in
their garages. .The process, called the lost wax process, starts with
a wax part which is coated with ceramic, the wa. removed, the ceramic
shell heated and metal poured in where the wax was. Cur metal will be
melted by induction, which is melting in a magnetic field. Our largest
mold heating oven win be the Sal'Tle size as a kitchen oven stove, our
largest part weighs about 8 OZ.

'.

We have two problems I w-ould like to make you aware of, first we are
testing our ceramic equipment in an unheated garage and the solutions
can be destroyed by freezing temperatures. Second, Northern States
Power Co. won't take an industrial power application until after a
lease is signed, and then there will be at least a 6 week delay before
hook up and I hear this somet imes drags out to 8 to 12 weeks - a delay
like this on top of a~ others could really hurt our business.

__ Any help you_ran_&ive us will be greatly appreciated.

Pete Allan
