BACKGROUND APPLICANT: LOCATION: ZONING: City of New Brighton Gen~rally north of Old Highway #8 and south~ast of the Community Resource Center R - 1, Sing le fa mil y Res ide n t i a 1 The request for a special use permit to allow the storage of ag~lime and s~alcoating aggregate at th~ old maintainance garag~ site owned by the City. ' Th.e Parks and Recreation Department has been storing ag-lime at the site. . In the past there have been problems with storing this material at the maintenance building site because the material has gotten mixed with the gravel and salt used on the public streets. Th~ Public Works Department salvaged approximately 500 tons of excess sealcoat aggregate which is a clean pea size rock. This request includes the storage of that material at this site. In terms of impact of this storage on adjacent properti~s, the piles are low and not clearly visible to adjac~nt properties. To the east of this site is the railroad tracks, to the north and west is the ball field and property of the Community Resource Center. The property has a number of mature trees which provide screening for this ~tored material. In addition, it appears because of the grade change the piles of material will have very little impact on person's traveling on Old Highway #8. In regard to safety the piles are of a material that is firm and consists of small particles. Therefore it appears that there is very little potential for any safety hazards. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Board recommend approval of SP-87 by waiving the reading and adopting the attached resolution.
