The
applicant is now applying for a permit for that sign.

STAFF COMMENT

1.
2.
. 3.
4.

According to, Section 14-180 b.2. of the Zoning Code ishopping centers
should be indentified by a single ground sign for th~ purpose of
center identification. It should display no more than five (5) items
and identify the center, not advertise individu~l businessestherein."

The proposed sig~ (see attachment) reads "Mister Donut", which is an
advertisement for one business and not identification for the shoppi~g
center. The property owner'of the center has agreed to the "Mister
Donut" Company applying for the ground sign. (See attached letter).

The areas of special control such as shopping centers allow the City
to negotiate sign plans with the property owners. the request does
not specifically meet the regulations in the sign code. There might
however be rationale for supporting this request, such as:

That this shopping center has never had identification for
the ~ame of the center, the 7-11 store has been identified
on the ground sign~
Staff is unsure that the shoppihg center h~s a name that
would identify the center;
That the tenants of the center and property owner support
the request that Mister Donut be identified on the ground
sign; and '
That past sign plans approved by the City Council for
buildings with multiple occupancy of small size be allowed
p 1 ate s 1 i s tin gin d i v i d u a 1 ten ant s . I~ t his cas e ,t h e s i g n
plan would have a ground sign identifying. only one tenant.
