December 16, 1980

APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL USE PERMIT
SP-95, MEDICAL PSYCHIATRY ASSOCIATES OF SAINT PAUL

PURPOSE

To consider a request for a special use permit for a sign plan for
a building with multiple tenants.

BACKGROUND
APPLICANT:

Medical Psychiatry Associates of
Saint Paul
James Janecek, M.D.

LOCATION: -

721 - 5th Avenue NW, "Plumbery
Building"

ZONING:

B-3, General Business

ORDINANCE REGULATIONS:

A. Wall Sign in B-3 District -
40% of Signable Area
B. Building with multiple tenant
with a shared entrance are
allowed one wall sign with build-
ing name only. The Council
through special permit is allowed
to establish a sign plan.

APPLICANT'S REQUEST

The applicant is requesting the installation of a wall sign 4' x 10'
listing the two tenants by business name. In addition, the sign
contains 4 slots for the doctor's names with three inch lettering.
The three inch lettering according to the zoning code is not
calculated as items of information.

STAFF COMt~ENTS

The proposed sign meets the zoning code requirements in regard to
location and size. The special use permit is required because of
the request for the names of both firms to be placed on the sign.
This sign plan appears to be consistent with previous sign plans
approved by the council which are directory in nature. The sign
meets the intention of the sign ordinance in that it does not
create clutter nor detracts from the architecture of the building.

STAFF RECOMt~ENDATION

Staff recommends that the Board recommend approval of SP-95 by
waiving the reading and adopting a resolution making findings of
fact and recommending approval of SP-95.

,,",

" ,
"- J;"'-~---.--- ~'-"'~---'---{ '.,;---.J-...

Joa-n--M~rcher, City Planner

-~- ~
