Since

additional uncompacted fill materials may exist below fill

materials which have been compacted at the foundation base

surface, the potential for total settlement greater than 3/4 of

an inch for differential settlement still exists. We, therefore,

recommend if this method is used, that the footings and.

foundation walls for this structure be constructed of.reinforced,

cast-in-place concrete rather than masonry block~ The additional

stiffness afforded by cast-in-place concrete may be necessary to

bridge over areas of looser or soft soils. The risk

of a settlement greater than . typical occurs wi th this

alternative, possibly with total settlement in the range of 1 to
2 inches, with differential settlement on the order of one half
(1/2) of the amount.

Alternative 2 - Subcut or excavate the existing fill 2 ft below

the base of footings in the footing areas, compact the excavation

base surface and recompact the replaced fill.
