CHRIST THE KING

LUTHERAN CHURCH. 1900 SEVENTH ST, N,W. . NEW BRIGHTON, MINN, 55112 . (612) 633-4674

April 2, 1982

City Council Planning Commission
City of New Brighton
803 Fifth Avenue N.W.
New Brighton, Minnesota 55112

Dear Members of the City Council and the Planning Commission:

We are planning to remodel and expand our facilities located at 1900
Seventh Street N.W.

We have been a member of the community for over twenty years. Our
congregation was organized in New Brighton on December 10, 1961. We
moved from New Brighton Elementary School into our first unit in March
of 1963. Our congregation continued to grow and we added our main sanc-
tuary in May of 1969. Since that time our baptized membership has grown
to approximately 2,100 people. This growth was rapid and not planned for.

It is because of this tremendous growth that we are planning to add
6,700 square feet of new construction to our building. In addition to
applying for a Building Permit, we are applying for a Special Use Permit.
The Special Use Permit is for an exception to the New Brighton Zoning
District R-l (Church in a Residential District). We ask that you approve
this request.

We also have two other concerns that you have to consider:

1.) To meet the pending and runoff requirements of the Rice Creek Water-
shed District, we may have to add some fill to the slope on the east
side of the driveway. We request that you allow us to add a minimum
amount of fill if required.

2.) Our parking lot in the front of the church does not meet the set-back
requirements. The distance from the Seventh Street right-of-way to
our parking lot curb is approximately 18 feet. Because this condition
has existed since 1963, we request that we be allowed to leave the
parking lot as it exists.

We thank you for your consideration and hope that you will help us meet
our needs so that we can continue to serve our members and the community.

Sincerely, .

~/ II tuuM~

Leonard A.
