DATE: November 16, 1971
CASE NUMBER: VN-81
APPLICANT: Big B's Pizza A.R. Gill Manager
LOCATION: Lot B, South 50 feet of Lot 9, Block 1 Pike Lake Estates
REQUEST: Variance to rotate pylon sign of establishment 90° to a position perpen-
dicular to Silver Lake Road for better visibility of the sign.
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:
It is the petitioners contention that the present location and relationship of the. Big. B's
Pizza sign with regard to Silver Lake Road make it difficult to see from that thorough-
fare and that the subsequent lack of exposure thereto creates a hardship situation from
the standpoint of the business.
Visability of the sign appears to be substantially limited due to its relationship to the
site and structures on the site and some relocation or reorientation of the sign appears
to be the only workable alternative.
Under the provisions of Section 14-030 Signs in Business Districts in the New Brighton
Zoning Code " No sign shall project more than twenty-four (24) inches across
the front yard or side yard setbacks. Yet, in Section 14-050 General Regulations
paragraphs b and c appear to be in contradiction to the provisions of 14-030. Re-
view and possible re-draft of the Sign Ordinance appears warranted for purposes of
clarification and intent of the Ordinance.
The requested variance rotating the existing sign 90° appears to be a reasonable
petition. A drawing showing the present and proposed relationships of the sign to the
site and the roadway would be helpful in evaluating the request.
