I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
December 8, 1987

Council discussed the great amount of time and cost involved (not
only for a technician but also for a council/commission member) in
condensing the 30 hours of video from the various Centennial
events to a 20-30 minute video.

Goepel advised that Commissioner Mark Haidet (an employee of the
Minnesota Historical Society) felt there would be more historical
value from interviews and photographs. Benke suggested interviews
as part of the narration of the condensed video.

Blomquist indicated the Commission could not reach a consensus for
a recorded oral history or a display case.

Gunderman suggested a five or six television-video-review by
councilmembers for a consensus on what video footage should be re-
tained for the capsule, and suggested a high school or college
history or video student may be interested in working on the edit-
ing.

Benke suggested assigning the project to a Marketing sub-committee
or a new commission.

Gunderman and Goepel will work on a television-video-review; coun-
cilmembers will attend if possible.

Benke also suggested donating a portion of the balance to the
restoration of Brighton, England1s music room (which was recently
damaged by a tornado), and asked that it be kept as an open item.

In summary, Benke stated the quality and quantity of events and
the participation surpassed his expectations (he had hoped the
Commission would build on annual events, but it got more people
and groups involved) and considers the Centennial a huge success
from every point.

Benke commended the Commission's co-chairpersons and Coordinator
Goepel for their efforts in putting the package together; and
announced there will be a recognition dinner in February for the
Commission as well as for all other City boards and commissions.

Blomquist, Co-Chairperson of the Commission, stated the Centennial
Commission's success would not have been possible if it weren't
for Judy Goepel and the manner in which she did her job; Gunderman
concurred with Benke's and Blomquist's comments, saying the City
can be very proud of Goepel.

Williams commended Blomquist for his patience and leadership in
working with such a diverse group.

Announcements and Updates

Sinda announced the City will be hosting a dinner at 5:30 p.m.
tomorrow at Robert Lee's Restaurant for the House Tax Sub-Commit-
tee which is holding a hearing in City Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Page 3

Announcements/Updates
