COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
Building Permit
IP- November 12, 1974
Request: Council authorization of building permit for expansion of
foundry building
Applicant: Kausel Foundry
Location`: 350 - 1st St. SW
Zoning: I-2
Size of Building: Ground Floor - 231'6" x 2386" = 55,213
Mezzanine 47' high 3,650
Total 58,863 sq. ft.
Exterior Treatment: Metal panels matching existing building
Discussion:
The Council has already approved a rear yard setback
variance for the proposed expansion and is also being asked to
approve a height variance. With these exceptions, the proposed
building meets all Code requirements.
Problems regarding parking spaces and drainage which were
previously noted to the Planning Commission have been corrected and
we now see no problems with the proposal.
The area closest to 1st Street will be considerably improved
with the addition of curbing, landscaping and a screen wall. The
final result should be extremely attractive.
Planning Commission Consideration (10-15-74):
The Chairman read the background discussion.
Thomas Stahl, architect for the applicant, and Chuck Kausel
were present to answer questions.
Harty asked if the 40' height limitation was the result of
a concern for fire protection.
The Building and Planning Coordinator stated that he did not
know the origin of this specific requirement and that he had not yet
received any commentary from the Fire Department regarding the plans
