1
r
City Council
Page tw o
April 7, 1975
be a cause for concern. Most definitely slower street traffic would indicate
smaller signs, a policy we have always followed in other locations in New
Brighton and other cities. One additional concern with Polynesian is that our
traffic comes past on a freeway with a large divider in between. People
traveling westbound represent prospects who otherwise would not be able
to identify the sign and information from the great distance.
(3) Applying to the property
Polynesian Village Apartments a.re set considerably back from the freeway.
The sign has a total height of 13 feet, consisting of two angled display boards
8' x 16' and is over 71 feet from the eastbound freeway and approximately
220 feet from the westbound lanes. Smaller signs on smaller streets would
be very visable, but our sign at that great distance has the same disadvantage
as other businesses located on or near the freeway and relying on freeway
traffic for a substantial portion of their income. By itself the sign poses no
problem as it is adjacent to our inner road and distant enough from all apart-
ments, three feet back from the property fence. It has been well kept through
the years and will continue to be an asset to our community.
In reviewing signs throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area we do see
a number of bad signs which should be removed or corrected, We realize
apartment owners are as guilty as others in ncxdesigning a proper identifying
sign for their complex. We feel our Polynesian sign is one to be proud of, is
well placed, compliments the architects' design at Polynesian Village and
helps set a theme to encourage residency. We are certain this sign has had
a major effect in attracting nearly complete occupancy with desirable tenants,
And although a very large complex, Mr. Fridgen of your inspection depart-
ment, tells us he is very well pleased with our upkeep, cooperation, and
maintenance of the buildings. We always intend to make Polynesian Village
a spot which will compliment the City of New Brighton. We know much of our
success can be attributed to our identity sign and with your permission we
will see it is kept in proper condition and continue to be a credit to the
community.
Sincerely,
POLYNESIAN VILL///A~~~GE INVEST'\\MENT CO.
~'~l~/~ _ / ~ V
William M.
