January. 22, 1976
T0: Councilman Gene Fisher
FROM: Barry P. Johnson, Building & Planning Coordinator
REs Value of wall signs - Eddie's Corner Bar
As you requested, we have gathered some information regarding
the cost of signs at Mr. Rybak's business. We have only been
able to discover one record of a permit being issued for signs:
at that location. It is unclear from the permit actually which
sign it covers but it appears to be the projecting sign, on the
corner. The estimated valuation was listed as $100.00. The
permit, however, was not signed by any applicant, therefore,
it would be difficult to take this permit as representation of
the sign's value.
Z had the Building Inspec-tor check with a sign company as
to the re lacement cost for si n f
P s o the t e at th
e Corner
g Bar
Y
P
and found that non-illuminated wall signs have an approximate
cost of $8.00 per square-foot, that the projecting sign .which
is 'illuminated and double faced would have an approximate cost
of $30.00 per square foot, that a printed wall sign would have:
an approximate cost of $20.00 per .square foot while a free-standing
non-illuminated sign has an approximate cost of $45-$50 per square
"foot. In this latter instance, the area is figured on the basis
of the total width and height of the sign from the ground not
simply the area of the face itself. With this information, I think
you could compute approximate replacement costs for most of
the signs which_Mr. Rybak currently has.
t ~.
Barry JohnsQ
Building & Planning Coordinator
