Page 2 <br />VN--160 - Bermel=Sma'by <br />of repair exceeding $50e00. <br />In late April of this year the applicant's ground sign. was <br />severly damaged by vandals.: As it was evident that the cost <br />of separS would exceed $50,00 the applicant.:-:was notified that <br />the repair work would require a permit and that before a <br />permit-could be'.issued either the sign would--have`to be <br />brought into total 'conformance or a variance would have to b~- <br />approved by the City Council.: The Building lnspector estimated <br />that the cost of repair would be around $500.00. The sign was_ <br />subsequently ~cepaired without a permit having _been issued. A <br />compliance order was issued noting the o~ticn of either making <br />the sign conforming or making application fovea variance.. :The <br />applicant has chosen to apply for the variance. <br />As noted above, the sign, plus the Togo, is non-conforming <br />because it is 20 sgare feet larger, than is permitted. <br />The applicant has. indicated on the application form that <br />the value of the sin is in excess of 5 000..00, that it has <br />not een ob'ectionable to this-date, and that it re wires onl <br />occasions repairs> w ei~ dams ed >b van a s,: Alt- ough not in- <br />~ica a on t e app- icat~on `__cirm, the applicant has verbally <br />indicated that to make th~~ sign conform would require that <br />the 'frame be reduced in size and that this would be an <br />expensive project. <br />
