As it was evident that the cost
of xepairs would exceed $50.00 the applicant was notified that
the repair work would require a permit and that before a
permit could be issued either the sign would have to be
brought into total conformance or a variance wouedthorvestimated
appxoved by the City Council. The Building insp
that the cost of repair would. be around $500.00. The sign was
subsequently repair~ad without a perms-t having been issued. A
compliance order` was issued not~:ng the.,apt~-Qn of either making
the~sign conforming or making application. for a variance. The
applicant has chosen to apply for the variance.
As noted above, the sign, plus the logo, is Son-conforming
because it is 20 spare feet larger than is permitted.
The applicant has indicated on the application form that
the value of the sign is in excess of $5,000.00, that i•t has
not been objectionable to this date, and that it requires only
occasional repairs when damaged by vandals. Although not in-
dicated on the applicaticzz form, the applicant has verbally
indicated that to make i:he sign conform would require that
the frame be reduced i:~ Nice and that this would be an
expensive project.
