.,/ Y APPLICANT'S STATEMENT Of REASON FOR VARIANCE:. This variance is requested because our family wishes to build a home on our land adjoining our present home. We wish to build a home because our present house is not compatible with the needs of our family; it has a single car garage in the basement, and the boy's bedroom is also in the basement, .bdth of which take away much of the storage and play area d family of five needs. Our children are very much attached to our neighborhood and the schools they have attended for the past six years. It would cause them undue unhappi- ness to be uprooted at this point in their lives. However, lots in our immediate (and surrounding) area are not numerous, and the prices are exorbitant. We feel this may be the only way we can afford another home and sti I I stay in New Brighton.- We feel the circumstances are unique because, although the subdivision of our land would yeild two lots below the recommended size, the position of our present house is at the far south of our land leaving the north half vacant. We have planted trees and shrubs allowing for this possibility of building a home there. (See diagram of house location and photo..) The subdivided lots would be 60 and 65 feet. This would not set a precedent in our neighborhood, as within a two block radius there are eleven. homes on 60 foot lots, three homes on 65 foot lots, and eleven homes on 50 foot lots. (See attached plat maps.) Also, three of these homes on smaller lots are new homes within four houses from us.
