~~
Supplement to Report ~i9-.`s37
June 21, 1979
APPLICATION FOR VARIANCE
VN-202, CARLEY FOUNDRY
PUR-POSE
To consider an application for Carley Foundry to permit parking on
a side street yard. in an industrial district.
BACKGROUND
At the regular meeting of the City .Council on March 13, 1979 the
Council held a public hearing on the applicant's proposal for the
installation of 2 truck parking spaces along the eastern side of
the Carley Foundry building adjacent to 8th Avenue N.W. The
Council continued the hearing to March 27, 1979 and then to June 26,
1979 in order to give the applicant .time to investigate alternative
parking areas on the site.
The applicant in response to the Council's. request has submitted the
attached letter. In this letter the applicant contends that the
original site proposed-for the parking area is the most acceptable.
The area selected by the applicant is adjacent to 8th Avenue N.W.
which is a dead-end street and the street with the .]east amount of
traffic. .Therefore, the parking area located adjacent to this
street would have less visual impact. In review of the physical
characteristics of the site and the traffic volume of Old Highway
#8 and-1st Street S.W., it appears that the most appropriate
location of the proposed 20' x 48' parking area is along the eastern
side of the site.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that UN-202 be_ approved by waiving the reading-and.
adopting the resolution making-findings of fact.in regard to VN-202
with conditions.
The Board of Review recommended approval of VN-202 by adopting a
similar resolution at its regular meeting February 20, 1979.
• Jo M.
